STRAWBERRY MILK
Mary the milk lady had a square milk crate that could hold nine bottles.  In how many ways can she put three strawberry milk bottles in the crate so that they form a line?

PIRATE SWORDS
On the pirate ship there are 24 swords.  Each pirate has 2 swords.  
If half the pirates lost a sword in battle and a quarter of the pirates each gained a new sword, how many swords would there now be on the pirate ship?
If a third of the swords were then lost how many would there be left?


GRANDPA'S CHOCOLATES
Grandpa has five pockets in his jacket.  In one pocket he has one chocolate.  In another pocket he has two chocolates.  In another he has four chocolates.  In yet another, he has double the previous pocket and in the fifth pocket he has double the previous pocket again.


How many chocolates does Grandpa have in his jacket?


 



PIGS AND DUCKS
Jennie the old sheep dog is lazing around in the paddock near the house. She counts the number of animals in the paddock. There are 11 of them, pigs and ducks. Then her eye runs over the legs. She sees 28 legs.

How many ducks are there?

    31 chocolates
    So first what I did was see five pockets and in one of the pockets I saw one chocolate.In the next pocket I saw two chocolates.The next pocket in it is four chocolates so I saw four chocolates and the next pocket I added 4 and 4 and I know that is 8 so the next there must be sixteen. So I add sixteen and one and that is seventeen and then I add two so it's nineteen.Before I add the 8 I add the four so that is twenty three.Now I can add the 8 so it is twenty three and 8 and that is 31.

    I worked this out by knowing my doubles. I think the answer is 31.

    I counted in fours and twos till I got to the right number of legs. The answer I got was 8
